Illinois General Assembly Passes House Resolution, Congratulates President of Waubonsee Community College for 20 Years of Service

Last night, at the April board meeting, Illinois State Representative Stephanie Kifowit recognized Dr. Christine Sobek, President of Waubonsee Community College, on behalf of the Illinois General Assembly, with a special House Resolution on her 20th year serving as president. 

Waubonsee Announces 2022 Distinguished Alumnus

Each year, the Waubonsee Community College Distinguished Alumnus Award is presented to an outstanding graduate of Waubonsee Community College. Awardees have distinguished themselves in their chosen profession, have documented evidence of contribution and service to their community, and demonstrated a continued interest in lifelong education. This year's Distinguished Alumnus is 2012 Waubonsee Community College Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee Tim Buckley.  

Waubonsee Board of Trustees Approves Dr. Sobek’s Retirement

The Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees officially approved the retirement of Dr. Christine J. Sobek at their April 20, 2022 board meeting. And, in recognition of Dr. Sobek’s 21 years of distinguished service, commitment, leadership, and contributions as President of the college, the board also approved the bestowing of the honorary title of President Emeritus upon her retirement. Dr. Sobek’s effective date of retirement from her role as President of Waubonsee Community College is January 4, 2023.  

Waubonsee Board of Trustees Seats Student Trustee

The Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees seated Juan Chiu to serve as the student trustee for the 2022-2023 academic year. 

Waubonsee Hosts Open House in Sugar Grove

Waubonsee Community College will host an open house on the Sugar Grove Campus on Saturday, April 23 from 1 to 3 p.m. The event is family-friendly, free, and open to the public.

Waubonsee Invites Cheer Athletes to Try Out for Cheer Team

Waubonsee Community College invites high school junior and senior cheer athletes and current Waubonsee students to try out for the 2022-2023 Co-Ed Competitive Cheer team.

A major strategic goal for this fiscal year was to review our Waubonsee Community College mission statement and to reflect on the relevance and meaning of the statement. The last formal review was conducted several years ago. Mission statements serve as an institutional compass and drive purpose. They succinctly express an organization's intent to demonstrate its ongoing commitment to meeting its stakeholder’s needs.

Waubonsee Celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

Waubonsee Community College will host events to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander heritage, culture, and traditions. Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, observed from May 1 through May 31, recognizes the contributions and influences of Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans in the history, culture, and achievements of the United States.
