Your supervisors, your managers also need to be able to communicate if you're going to have a workforce of Spanish-speaking people. You have to have leadership that can communicate directly. Being embedded into the workday is my favorite part of this program. I could not do this if it wasn't embedded in the workday, and I really like the pace. It’s immersion learning, and you learn as you go.

I always wanted to learn Spanish, but especially now working here, I'm surrounded by Spanish-speaking people. So, it would be nice to be able to understand and to be better understood and communicate better with my co-workers.

It helps us when we’re learning actual things that we're going to be doing out on the floor at our job, talking and applying that in Spanish. I like the fact that when I’m out on the floor now, we’re greeting each other in Spanish, but the folks who are taking the English classes are greeting me in English.

I can leave the class right now, go out to the floor and use what I learned today. I walk into work and apply what I’ve learned.

I try to talk in English to everybody, so if I speak to co-workers in English, my communication at work will improve.

My favorite part is the practice. Every class is practical; we practice conversation with each other. I do this for more opportunities in this company, but also in life. Every day, I practice with my partners on the job. My co-worker doesn’t know Spanish, but I don’t speak his language. So now we meet in the middle while we learn English.

I wanted to learn more English, because I want more opportunities in my job.

Working with Waubonsee Community College has been a transformative experience for Freudenberg Household Products. The English and Spanish classes facilitated by Waubonsee Community College are bridging communication gaps among our staff and fostering clearer and more comprehensible communication. This enhanced communication is enabling us to work more effectively as a team. The onsite classes provide immense value by allowing the maximum number of employees to participate in learning a new language with minimal disruption to their daily lives. This initiative is not only strengthening opportunities for our employees but also contributing to a more cohesive and productive work environment.
