First responders such as police officers, firefighters and emergency medical technicians play critical roles in all of our communities.  As a result, it is increasingly important that this vital workforce reflects the diversity of the communities they serve. Community college faculty and staff have stepped up to this challenge through their efforts to recruit a diverse student body for programs that provide the technical and academic preparation for these fields.

Several students were recently elected to the Waubonsee Community College Student Senate.

Dr. David Beer has been appointed to the position of Assistant Dean for Business and Career Technologies at Waubonsee Community College. His new position is a promotion, as he has previously been serving as Career and Technical Education Analyst for the college.

Waubonsee Community College alumnus Amy Chally has faced many challenges over her lifetime, but has persevered to turn those challenges into an opportunity to help and motivate others.

We all want to live in a community that we can call excellent. We want a community that is responsive and fulfills our need for public services, education, recreation and social interaction. In the Fox Valley we are fortunate to have municipalities that strive for excellence every day. However, reaching the goal of excellence is not easy today, as economic forces over the last 20 years have put unprecedented demands on municipal leaders, staffs, employees, budgets, and infrastructure.

The people who help our counties, cities, towns and villages to run smoothly have seen rapid change in the ways government units operate over the last decades.  But, it might surprise you to know that some employees have had to update their skills without professional development or training.  That’s why when Waubonsee Community College’s Workforce Development Division began an inquiry of local civic leader’s greatest needs a few years ago, we discovered the pain points that government organizations faced in the development of their workers.  The college was seeking to partner and provide ongoing professional development for municipal workers, we were happy to rise to the challenge.

Waubonsee Community College Vice President of Student Development Dr. Melinda Tejada is being honored in the “Business Ledger’s” 19^th Annual Influential Women in Business awards program.

Waubonsee Community College’s Surgical Technology Program recently received recognition by the Board of Directors of the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting for achieving at least a 90 percent graduate pass rate on the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) exam cycle for August 2015 through July 2016.
