5 Steps to Resume Success

Today’s employers use complex software called Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). Using algorithms, ATS are programmed to parse resumes by looking for keywords and phrases. Improve your chances of having a person see your resume by writing an ATS-friendly resume that uses knowledge of how these systems work.

Now that you know about Applicant Tracking Systems, use job descriptions and the O*NET, an online directory of occupational titles, to help you craft bullet points that describe your achievements and promote yourself effectively.

Employers expect you to communicate how are you unique and stand out from other applicants.

By using the SOAR Formula, the bullets on your resume will clearly communicate what you accomplished in your job versus telling about responsibilities.

In general, ATS have preferences when it comes to resume formats.

Avoid getting lost in the ATS “black hole”:
