Waubonsee Announces 2018 Distinguished Contributor and Alumnus

Waubonsee Community College announced its 2018 Distinguished Contributor and Distinguished Alumnus at the college’s annual commencement ceremonies on Saturday. Jerome A. Rich, Chairman of the Board of Rich Harvest Farms, is this year’s Distinguished Contributor. Ashley Lewis, singer, songwriter and performer, is this year’s Distinguished Alumnus.

Never-Ending Development

My high school years ended in tragedy and isolation. A close friend had died after an accident almost a week before graduation, my clique quickly grew apart as our summer had progressed and I distanced myself from family members and other friends to deal with such a drastic and sad change in my life....

However, all of that changed when I ran for Student Senate.

 

Waubonsee Earns Early Childhood Education Credentials

Waubonsee Community College has recently been approved as an Entitled Institution for the Gateways to Opportunity® with three new credentials and the reaffirmation of three existing credentials.

Waubonsee Hosts Event at First Fridays

The Waubonsee Community College Art Department will host a special art event from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, May 4 as part of First Fridays in downtown Aurora.

Waubonsee Students Take Advantage of Break to Help Others

Many college students take advantage of their spring break to visit friends and family or go to beaches and other exotic locations. Some students, though, use their break to volunteer and help others.

Waubonsee Hosts Surgeon General for Discussion on Opioids

Waubonsee Community College hosted U.S. Surgeon General Jerome Adams and U.S. Representative Randy Hultgren (R-Plano) at its Sugar Grove Campus on Wednesday. The event was a forum to discuss the opioid crisis in the region. Hultgren sponsored the forum. In addition to Adams and Hultgren, the forum included law enforcement and health officials from across the area.

A Successful Academic Year Ends as Another One Begins

With commencement ceremonies happening across the country, May is always a special time of the year on college campuses. That is certainly the case at Waubonsee as we prepare to celebrate the academic accomplishments of our students.

Waubonsee Literary Magazine Event Rescheduled

The Waubonsee Community College English Department and the college’s Creative Writing Club has rescheduled the release party for the 2018 edition of Horizons, Waubonsee’s literary magazine. The publication release will be marked with a celebration on Monday, May 7 in the Student Center on the Sugar Grove Campus. The event was originally scheduled for Wednesday, May 2.

Waubonsee’s Auto Body Repair Program Accreditation Reaffirmed

The Auto Body Repair Program at Waubonsee Community College recently received reaffirmation of accreditation through the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Education Foundation.
