The Dean’s List at Waubonsee Community College celebrates excellence among students who achieve a minimum 3.5 grade-point average out of a possible 4.0 while enrolled in at least 6 semester credit hours.

There is no doubt that having a college degree or certificate can increase your salary. Many people, though, may not understand that these increased salaries do not necessarily require a 4-year degree. There are many jobs and careers that have increased wages with a 2-year degree or a certificate that takes even less time.

Waubonsee Students Find Success in Drafting Careers

Changes in technology and advances in automation can lead people to be concerned about the future of some jobs in career fields like engineering and computer aided design and drafting (CAD). However, Waubonsee Community College students Michael Chinn of Batavia and Matthew Maltese of Aurora have found rewarding jobs as drafters at EN Engineering in Warrenville.

Waubonsee Foundation Awards Scholarships

The Waubonsee Community College Foundation has awarded 405 scholarships to 346 recipients. The total value of the scholarships this year is more than $378,000. The number of scholarships and the total dollar amount of scholarships increased by 8 percent this year and the number of recipients increased by 18 percent. The scholarships are for the upcoming academic year.

During my more than 40 years experience working within higher education – specifically within the community college system – I have witnessed countless examples of the power of education to change lives. And, nothing is more effective than hearing directly from the source; people who have attended community college.
