General Information

Placement testing helps identify your academic skill level to place and enroll in the correct courses. Students may be able use multiple measures other than placement testing to enroll in college courses.

New college students should always speak an admissions advisor before enrolling in any coursework.
Transferring in or returning students should speak with an academic and career advisor before enrolling in coursework.

How to complete Placement Testing at Waubonsee

Placement Testing Basics

Testers must follow Testing Center Policies.
Testers must present valid photo identification and a Waubonsee X-number.
Valid forms of identification include a State Issued Photo ID, Passport, Waubonsee XCARD, Accuplacer Student ID, or a High School ID.
Photocopied or electronic identification will not be accepted.
Waubonsee uses the College Board’s ACCUPLACER suite of assessments.
All ACCUPLACER tests use a multiple-choice format except for the WritePlacer, which is an essay test.

Taking your Placement Tests

Walk in to take placement tests on demand at our Sugar Grove or Downtown Aurora campuses. View our current hours in the directory. Writing Placement will end 90 minutes prior to closing time, all other placement exams will end 30 minutes prior to closing time.
Schedule your placement exam in advance at our Sugar Grove or Downtown Aurora campuses.
Students who cannot test in-person for health, transportation or schedule-related reasons can request a remote exam with a live proctor. Remote exams require the test session to be scheduled 72 hours in advance and all exams are completed in one appointment. Please use the online ServiceDesk System if you need assistance with a laptop, webcam or wi-fi hotspot. A “What to Expect on Exam Day” video is available to help you prepare.

After the Tests

You will receive your results upon completion of the test(s) and your scores will be posted to your mywcc portal. To interpret your scores for Waubonsee Community College, use the guides below or contact your admissions advisor
Retesting is allowed after a 24-hour study period. The third attempt is your final attempt and requires a one-week study period after your second attempt. The third attempt also carries a $15.00 fee per subject.
To view, print or share your completed ACCUPLACER scores after placement testing at Waubonsee Community College or from another institution, log into the Accuplacer Student Portal and navigate to Your ACCUPLACER or TSIA2 Score Report.
Scores are valid for a 3-year period from the date of testing.

Remote Accuplacer Test Request Form

Requests received after 4 p.m. or on weekends and holidays will be processed the next business day.
Each subject's exam is approximately one hour long. Plan to complete each exam without stopping.
Remote testing vouchers will not be processed during the Waubonsee Community College winter break December 20th to January 1st.

Appointments are not necessary for placement tests.

Please Note: Department hours for all test centers will be enforced and all testing must conclude at time of closing. No new tests will be allowed 30 minutes prior to closing with the exception of The ACCUPLACER® WritePlacer test which will not be administered 90 minutes before closing.
