Welcome to the Waubonsee Peer Support Program

Our mission with the Waubonsee Peer Support Program is to build a community that champions mental health awareness and equips students with essential tools for success. Our Peer Support Leaders are trained in various mental health support techniques, peer mentorships skills, and possess extensive knowledge of campus & community resources. This enables them to assist students with everything from setting academic goals to navigating emotional challenges. By fostering peer connections, we strive to enhance daily well-being and create an additional space where students feel safe, valued, and understood on campus.

What is a Waubonsee Peer Support Leader?

Peer Support Leaders are trained and certified in peer mentorship and mental health support but are not licensed mental health professionals.

Peer Support Leaders are students who have a passion for supporting their peers. They are trained to provide basic mental health and wellness support and peer mentorship. They can meet by appointment or during drop-in hours.

Testimonials

Naidelyn Avila

“What the Peer Support Program means to me is breaking down the mental health stigma that is commonly found on college campuses. The Peer Support Program provides a safe space for students to learn and trust their fellow peers who may be going through the same struggles. It builds unity and acts as a reminder that we are not alone because we have each other. That is what being a Peer Support Leader meant to me, and I’m proud to have been part of a program that harbors safety and trust on students like me.”

Ireri Miranda-Gonzalez

“I am so excited for this program to launch; I have enjoyed all our training, and I can't wait for students and faculty to check our canvas page. I am so happy and thankful for being part of this new program here at Waubonsee. I am sure the Peer Support Program would help many students and connect our Waubonsee community even more!”

Joshua Petry

The Peer Support Program has been a wonderful experience for me personally and is a great way for students to connect with trained peers who can help them navigate through college! The program has given me experiences I wouldn’t normally have access to at an Associate level, and I know firsthand how valuable it has been for the students I’ve met with. I know that Waubonsee is actively working to expand the program and solidify a culture of mental health awareness, and I’m excited to see what the future holds!

We’d love to talk with you!
