Procedure for Entering the Fire Science Technology Program
Students new to Waubonsee
- Submit the online New Student Application for Admissions.
All students:
- Meet with Academic and Career Advising to establish a schedule for taking courses. Some Fire Science (FSC) courses are offered on a limited basis and have strict enrollment caps. Students should plan ahead to complete coursework.
- Students with Office of State Fire Marshall (OSFM) certifications and courses can request a Prior Learning Assessment. Each request is evaluated on an individual basis. For more information, contact the Health Professions and Public Service Office at HPPS@waubonsee.edu.
- Students who have completed prerequisites or equivalent courses at previous colleges or universities should arrange to have official transcripts sent to Registration and Records to be evaluated for transfer credit before applying for the program.
Completing the Certificate and Degree Options in Fire Science Technology
Requirements
Once enrolled, students must:
- Complete each Fire Science (FSC) major course and applicable general education requirements with a grade C or better to receive the declared certificate or Associates Degree.
- Maintain proper attendance and follow protocols of Fire Protection District sites and staff.
- Understand and follow requirements and guidelines detailed in the Fire Science Technology Student Handbook (PDF).
Instructor Submissions
Students enrolling in FSC 105, FSC 115, FSC 118 or FSC 125 must submit the following to course instructors on the first day of class (all required forms will be found in the program handbook):
- Non-rostered students/students who do not currently work for a fire department:
- Medical exam waiver signed by student's physician
- OSHA Respirator Medical Evaluation Questionnaire
- Proof of current health insurance
- Release of liability form and ineligibility forms
- Students rostered by a fire department:
- Letter from fire chief attesting to rostered status
- FIT test record for SCBA (within 12 months)
- Proof of current health insurance or copy of FD’s liability insurance
- Release of liability form
