Kimberly Young, a Waubonsee Community College graduate, was recently selected as the first runner-up in the nationwide contest to be recognized by the Cooperative Education and Internship Association as the top student at a two-year college last year.
Young, of Sandwich, was selected for the first runner-up honor during the winter meeting for the Cincinnati-based CEIA Board of Directors.
She was selected from among a field of 10 applicants from two-year colleges across the country.
Young, who was a single mother when she began her education at Waubonsee in 2011, was selected based on her successful work during a two-semester paid internship at the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry. After she graduated in 2013, Young converted the internship into a full-time position as an administrative assistant to the executive director at the Aurora charitable organization.
While at Waubonsee, Young earned an Associate in Applied Science Degree.
She was selected to be Waubonsee’s Featured Student in July 2013.
Young will be recognized at the CEIA’s annual meeting in April in Seattle.
