You have scheduled your advising appointment, that’s great! Your Advisor is ready to support you. Now, it is time to PREPARE FOR YOUR MEETING to make sure you get the most out of your time with your Advisor. Follow the recommended steps and checklist below to help you prepare.

❑ Your Waubonsee student email for appointment reminders and information your Advisor may have already sent you


❑ How to register for classes and Registration, Refund, and Withdrawal Dates for the semester


❑ For any active registration holds and your registration status on your student profile in Self Service (*after clicking Launch Student Profile, look for your registration holds and status in the upper right corner of your profile)

HAVE

❑ A general idea of classes you want to take next semester. Use course descriptions (pages 92-149 in the college catalog) to note any classes you would like to explore more with your Advisor


❑ A list of questions and topics you want to cover with your Advisor – what information do you want to walk away with after your appointment?


❑ Your availability and preferences for class times and modality and your plan for form of payment

BRING

❑ A copy of your unofficial college transcript if you have attended another college. Email it to the Advisor you are meeting with prior to your appointment.


❑ A copy of your current academic plan. Email your Advisor if you need an updated copy. Please note: if this is your first semester advising appointment, your Advisor will provide your academic plan during your appointment


❑ Notebook or device to take notes during your appointment. This will help you remember important dates, information, and next steps recommended by your Advisor.

Tips for Your Virtual Advising Appointment

  • Choose a distraction-free environment
  • Be ready to follow along with your Advisor on the computer. Your Advisor may share their screen with you or refer you to specific resources in MyWCC or on the college website
  • Make sure your zoom is set up and the correct phone number is listed on your student account
