Waubonsee Community College’s efforts to preserve, protect and promote the natural habitat on their Sugar Grove campus were highlighted during recent Earth Day events, and with recognition of the campus as a Certified Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation.

The hands-on learning and student-first mentality of the Waubonsee Community College Automotive Technology program has brought the college national recognition and produced scores of successful alumni who complete the program ready to lead in the field.

Across the country this month, the sounds of Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance” will be followed by the cheers and throwing of caps as millions of new college graduates celebrate the achievement of a higher education degree. And while obtaining a degree has its many challenges, the new graduate now faces an even bigger hurdle: Competing for jobs in what remains to be a tight job market. But a prepared few will have a leg up on their peers – those who have completed internships are more likely to get hired.

At the core of the mission of a community college is the goal to be a resource for lifelong learning and personal growth. A key part of that strategy is to provide career development that empowers people by giving them the education, skills and network to achieve and surpass their personal and professional dreams.

Waubonsee has named Dr. Diane Nyhammer as the college’s Vice President of Educational Affairs.
