I have over 25 years of field experience as a technician, and 21 years of teaching experience. I still work in the field as a technician to keep up on current technology and repair practices so I can incorporate those into my classes.
I have been involved with cars my entire life. My father was a technician at one point in his career and would teach me while he worked on cars at home through my entire childhood. My professional preparation started in 2000 as I became an entry level technician in a local repair shop. At that same time, I enrolled in Waubonsee's Automotive Technology Program to gain my Associates degree. During this time, I spent lots of time honing my skills and putting in extra time in the shop. I also spent a lot of time working building
After completing the automotive program at WCC, I transferred to SIU to gain my bachelor's degree in automotive technology. It was during this time that I decided I wanted to get into teaching as I was a TA in a number of my college courses, and really enjoyed working with other students. Upon graduating from SIU, I accepted a job as an automotive teacher at a new school that was opening, Oswego East High School. I also started teaching as an adjunct at Waubonsee to gain more experience. During that time I knew that my career goal was to be a teacher at Waubonsee full time.
I developed the program at Oswego East High School while continuing to gain knowledge and experience. 10 years later, WCC decided to expand their automotive program, and I joined the team to offer more sections of classes and develop their newly approved Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Program.
Since then I have worked to keep Waubonsee's program at the cutting edge of technology.
In my life away from Waubonsee, I work at a High Performance shop building custom vehicles and race cars. Drag racing has been a passion of mine since I was a young kid. In my spare time when I am not involved in the automotive field, I like to spend time with my wife and 2 daughters and play guitar.
