A patient-centered approach is used in this course that introduces the student to administrative medical assisting competencies and terminology utilized in the health care setting. Students receive CPR and First Aid certification. Students are taught fundamental triage skills, techniques of patient instruction, basic clerical duties, maintaining patient records, scheduling appointments and procedures, processing telephone calls, medical insurance and coding, handling finances for a medical practice and emergency preparedness. Legal, social or ethical responsibilities and professional conduct in the healthcare office are emphasized. Enforced Prereq, Program Admission Recommended Prereq, CIS110 or concurrent enrollment
