This course studies the neurologic, physiologic, behavioral and cognitive effects of psychoactive drugs - drugs that affect the brain and central nervous system. Legal and pharmacological classification systems and specific classes are reviewed, including risks associated with overdose, withdrawal and physical dependence. Methods and patterns of use and the impact of route of administration are explored. The use of drugs in treating psychiatric disorders, accepted medical uses, and toxicity of socially abused drugs are also explored. Substance use patterns of special populations are included. Prereq, C or better in HSV120
