This course is a chronological study of British masterpieces from Beowulf (eighth century) through the pre-Romantics (late eighteenth century). The history of ideas will be studied to show the relationship between an idea and its literary genre. Critical analysis of primary and secondary resources is required.

Note: Recommended for the IAI English major or Gen Ed elective. IAI English majors should be aware that universities may not accept elective literature courses other than British and American survey courses for the major when transferring. Recommended Prereq, C or better in ENG085 or ENG095 or placement by appropriate measures into college-level English
