Varied start dates and lengths make traditional credit courses a popular summer choice for those looking for a flexible schedule. Waubonsee’s low tuition rate is a plus and many four-year university students will enroll at the college over the summer, in an effort to save both money and time as they work toward a bachelor’s degree.
Of course, most working professionals do not get an extended summer vacation, but this sometimes slower-paced season can be a great time for some professional development to build your skill set. Waubonsee’s Workforce Development Department is offering some great programs this summer, including project management workshops, CPR sessions and QuickBooks Basics. There are also online continuing education offerings for teachers.
Just as many high school teachers will be enrolled in these continuing education courses this summer, many of their students will be enrolled in Waubonsee’s High School Credit Program. Through this program, local high school students can catch up or move ahead, earning high school credit.
Appealing to an even younger audience are Waubonsee’s Xcelerate summer enrichment camps, for children ages 4 to 14. Programmed by the college’s Community Education Department, these popular camps typically run for a week and allow children to explore topics like dinosaurs, insects, horses, video games, jewelry, steel drums and more!
But it shouldn’t be just the kids who have all the fun — adults should also think about taking a Community Education course this summer. Develop your photography skills, better train your dog, try Latin dance — whatever you choose, it’s sure to be memorable.
If physical fitness is on the top of your list this summer, be sure to join the Total Fitness Center on the Sugar Grove Campus. A variety of individual, couple and family membership options are available, and all include the use of the college’s new indoor track, perfect for those summer days when it’s just too hot to run or walk outside. When the weather is more temperate, the section of the Virgil Gilman Trail that runs through the Sugar Grove Campus is a great place for a walk, run or bike ride.
As you can see, Waubonsee is a great option for education, entertainment and interesting activities all year long, so I encourage you to treat us as one of your “staycation” destinations this summer. You’ll be glad you did.
