Doug Jeppesen, Associate Professor of Art/Ceramics at Waubonsee Community College, is among 100 modern artists whose work is featured in a new book.
Titled Wood-Fired Ceramics: 100 Contemporary Artists, by Amedeo Salamoni, the book includes more than 500 brilliant color photographs highlighting the work of 100 ceramic artists who use the labor-intensive and sometimes unpredictable process of wood-firing to create their works.
The book shares several examples of each artist’s work, from small pots to monumental installations, as well as stories about what has inspired and influenced them, and the techniques they employ.
The book is published by Schiffer Publishing Ltd.
Jeppesen regularly instructs students in various ceramics techniques, utilizing the college’s four wood kilns, along with its kiln rooms for electrics and gas.
The 10,000-square-foot Ceramics Studio is located on Waubonsee’s Sugar Grove Campus, Route 47 and Waubonsee Drive.
