Michael Cermak has assumed his duties as Dean for Business and Career Technologies at Waubonsee Community College.
Cermak was appointed to the position by the Waubonsee Board of Trustees in March, and began his new role at the college on April 14.
Cermak comes to Waubonsee from Illinois State University in Normal, where he had served as Director of the Special Populations in CTE Leadership Project since 2011. In prior years, Cermak had served as Principal at Academic Career Educational (ACE) High School in the Rockford Public Schools for four years, helping to plan, implement and lead the comprehensive career high school.
Additionally, Cermak served for three years as an Associate Dean at Rock Valley College, where he led six Engineering and Technology credit programs. His educational service also includes experience as a full-time faculty member at Rock Valley College and high school teaching experience.
Cermak holds a Master of Science degree in Educational Administration from Western Illinois University and a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from Illinois State University. He is pursuing a doctoral degree in higher education at ISU.
