Learn about newly discovered ecosystems this month as part of Waubonsee Community College’s ongoing Community Education series “Asset Earth.” The series begins this month with “Exploring ‘New’ Environments on Earth” presented by world-renowned geologist and polar explorer, Ross Powell.
Powell, a Distinguished Research Professor of Geology and Environmental Geosciences at Northern Illinois University, will talk about exciting new discoveries on Earth, and their implications. Powell will share with the audience how he and other scientists conduct research at the coldest place on the planet, Antarctica.
The free event takes place at 7 p.m. Sept. 24 at the Sugar Grove Campus Auditorium, Route 47 at Waubonsee Drive.
In November, the science behind dating and relationships will be revealed when Waubonsee biology instructor Justin Hoshaw presents “What Science Can Teach You About Dating, Love and Sex (That Sex Ed Didn’t).”
Asset Earth is a series of presentations by scientific experts on current scientific thought and events. The topics and speakers are selected to present ideas and concepts about our planet in an entertaining manner. Registration for these events is not necessary: They are free and open the public.
