Five Volleyball players recognized for their outstanding play
Waubonsee Community College Women’s Volleyball team members were recognized for their success during the 2017 season by the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) and the NJCAA Region IV Volleyball Committee. A trio of freshman from Aurora West High School headed up the Chiefs’ contingent of honorees. Middle hitter Kayla Battle, outside hitter Sidney Fedor and setter Natalie Jones were each named All-Region IV and All-ISCC. In addition, sophomore outside hitters Anna Senese and Chelsey Ellen were recognized for their outstanding play.
Battle was named to the All-Region IV team, was an All-ISCC First Team selection and was chosen to the Region IV All-Tournament team. The 6’0” freshman booked 97 solo blocks which placed her 13th nationally in that category among all NJCAA Division II players. Battle led Waubonsee with 360 points on the season and was second of the team in kills with 236.
Fedor was also named to the All-Region IV team and the All-ISCC First Team. She led Waubonsee with 242 kills and was second on the team with 308 points tallied. Also a 6’0 freshman, Fedor recorded 62 solo blocks to rank 33rd nationally.
Jones was selected to the All-Region IV team, was chosen to the All-ISCC Second Team and was tabbed a Region IV All-Tournament performer. One of the Chiefs’ main setters, Jones registered 81 serving aces on the season which ranked her fourth nationally in that category. She also led Waubonsee with 625 assists and was second on the team with 268 digs.
A graduate of Kaneland High School, Senese was named to the All-ISCC Second Team. Injuries limited the sophomore to just 23 matches, but she managed 139 kills and scored 171.5 points. She led the Chiefs in average kills per set (2.24) and points per set (2.8).
Ellen, a Yorkville High School alumnus, was named to the Region IV All-Tournament team after helping lead the Chiefs to the title match. The sophomore tallied 28 kills, 34 digs and five solo blocks in Waubonsee three tournament matches.
Waubonsee reached the championship match of the Region IV Division II District A Tournament, falling to nationally-ranked Sauk Valley. The Chiefs finished the season 25-17 overall, the fifth straight season of 25 or more wins under the direction of Steve Kish.
