Studying Human Services at Waubonsee
Waubonsee’s trained instructors ensure that you'll be prepared for employment in a variety of social service organizations. Curriculum focuses on key aspects of mental health and behavior: substance abuse, addiction, PTSD and other conditions. Students also explore and develop essential skills and approaches to assessment, counseling, crisis interventions and other important dynamics.
On-site experiences at local agencies encourage students to study human services specializations, providing up-close exposure to and engagement with various career areas.

Program Recognition and Outcomes
Waubonsee’s Substance Use Disorder Counseling Program is accedited by the Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association, Inc. (IAODAPCA), a recognition of quality as well assurance that your credits can transfer to a four-year university program.

Students interested in pursuing enrollment in HSV230 and 240 Addictions Counseling Seminar and Field Experience courses and/or the Alcohol/Drug Counselor Post-Baccalaureate Certificate of Achievement Program must review and complete the applicable sections of the Human Services Post-Bacc Application and Internship Agreement Packet (PDF) and return required sections to Michael Moran, Assistant Professor of Human Services, at mmoran@waubonsee.edu.
Working in Human Services
Human services professionals become vital counselors and confidants for youth and adults in a variety of settings—from community organizations and schools to government agencies and even medical facilities.
Our program’s advanced accreditation from the Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association (IAODAPCA) is an advantage to our students, graduates and faculty.
Graduates of our Human Services AAS Degree Program can become Certified Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselors (CADC) and enter the workforce more quickly. Waubonsee graduates and faculty also have a high pass rate on the IAODAPCA’s Certified Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor Examination.
