Human Services Classroom Michael Moran
While there are many things that I love about being here at Waubonsee, I have two favorites. The first is witnessing the energy and enthusiasm that our students bring with them into the classroom. And the second is the opportunity to be a part of their learning, to help them create a plan to accomplish their goal and to see them follow it through to completion. I love playing a small role in their success!
How did you become interested in Human Services?

With an extensive background in working with individuals who have substance use disorders, I am knowledgeable about all aspects of assessing, diagnosing, and treating individuals with substance use disorders.

Why should someone consider Human Services?

Counseling is all about building relationships and helping people learn about themselves. I have a special interest in teaching counseling skills, helping students learn how to take their passion for helping and develop the skills necessary to be an effective counselor.

How would you describe your teaching style and what can students expect in class with you?

I think they should expect to have fun while learning, they should expect lots of opportunities to apply what they are learning in the classroom in a safe environment. They should expect to work with other classmates on a regular basis, to be challenged to think critically and evaluate ideas, and to learn from every course in the program.

What should students know about studying Human Services at Waubonsee?

My favorite assignments are classroom activities that allow students to practice what they will be doing when they complete their coursework here at Waubonsee.

What do you like to do outside of work?

I've been to five National Parks so far–Zion, Bryce, Glacier, Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. They have all been breathtaking in very different ways. For beauty, I would go with Glacier. The mountains and blue waters of the lakes there combined with the wildlife are jaw-dropping incredible.
