Cybersecurity

Are you searching for your next career opportunity in computer information systems or cybersecurity? Waubonsee Community College, in partnership with Northern Trust, will host a Cybersecurity Engineering Apprenticeship information session at the Plano Campus on Tuesday, April 11 from 6 to 7 p.m. The session is free and open to the public and will also be available via Zoom for those who cannot attend in-person.

Students interested in gaining cutting-edge career experience in Waubonsee’s newest Cybersecurity Engineering Apprenticeship Program, tuition-free, are invited to attend this information session as a way to learn about this exciting career.

Current Waubonsee cybersecurity students Eric Hernandez, of Sugar Grove, and Adam Annerino, of Montgomery, admit they were hesitant about joining the Cybersecurity Apprenticeship, at first, but have since gained guidance and support that has bolstered their confidence.

“What I like the best about the apprenticeship at Northern Trust is definitely the team I work with,” said Hernandez. “When I had first started, they did not hesitate to get me set up and help me with anything I needed. They have continued that streak of friendliness and assistance throughout my entire apprenticeship so far and I could not be more grateful.”

Everyday Hernandez relies on more than one person to guide or assist him in anything that he might need. Hernandez says if one person can’t help, he is always assured that someone on the team can help him complete his task.

“The staff at Waubonsee and Northern Trust have gone above and beyond and I have formed some great relationships at work because of it!” added Hernandez.

In addition to receiving experience to be qualified for an entry-level cybersecurity position, Annerino and Hernandez will receive training for a variety of industry certifications, including, but not limited to, CompTIA Net+, A+ and Cisco CCNA.

Waubonsee Community College and Northern Trust strengthen the cybersecurity workforce by educating and training Waubonsee cybersecurity students through a flexible “earn and learn” model.

“The best thing about working in the apprenticeship is the flexibility between my work and school schedule,” said Annerino.
