Waubonsee Community College welcomes Dr. Ruth Anne Rehfeldt, of Naperville, to the position of Dean for Visual and Performing Arts, Education, and Sciences.

Dr. Rehfeldt holds a PhD and Master of Arts in Psychology from the University of Nevada and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Puget Sound. Dr. Rehfeldt taught previously as an adjunct faculty member at Waubonsee Community College in Psychology from 1998 to 1999.

“Teaching at Waubonsee Community College was extremely important to me during my formative years, so it is a great honor to be able to return here and serve in this role,” said Dr. Rehfeldt. “Moreover, many aspects of this new division resonate with me: I spent 20 years working in a College of Education and Human Services at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, am a psychology researcher who is invested in the natural sciences, and am heavily engaged in the arts for my own leisure. I am thrilled to be here!”

Dr. Rehfeldt has extensive experience working with grants and accreditation. She has served as Principal Investigator for several grants and is a trained Peer Reviewer with the Higher Learning Commission. In her previous roles, Dr. Rehfeldt served as a Professor and Chair at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology.

Prior to that, Dr. Rehfeldt was employed at Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) for 20 years. Dr. Rehfeldt held many positions at SIUC, including Interim Director of the Rehabilitation Institute, Director of the Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders, Director and Developer of the Undergraduate Bachelor of Science Program in Behavior Analysis and Therapy, and Professor in the Rehabilitation Institute. She has extensive research experience, and has published a number of empirical articles with students, and has been honored with awards for both teaching and research.

Dr. Rehfeldt is also greatly involved in classical music and the arts. She plays viola in the DuPage Symphony Orchestra and has played in the Fox Valley Symphony.

The college’s board of trustees approved Dr. Rehfeldt’s appointment at their regularly scheduled meeting on April 20, 2022.
