I earned a BA in Art History and a BFA in Art with an emphasis in ceramics from the University of Tulsa, and MFA from Northern Illinois University.
I specialize in wood firing and have built six different styled wood fired kilns at the college. I prefer to fire my work in the anagama, which was completed during the fall of 2006 and is one of only three in the state of Illinois. Firing this fourteen-foot-long kiln over 75 hours with my students is an amazing educational experience for all involved. This kiln offers me the opportunity to explore multiple zones within one firing and enables the work to achieve a varied palette simultaneously depending on location and placement.
My work has appeared in numerous national juried and invitational exhibitions across the United States and I was a panel member during the International Wood Firing Conference hosted by Northern Arizona University, and at the 2nd European Wood Fire Conference hosted by Guladagergaard International Ceramic Research Center in Skaelskor Denmark. In 2016, I was provided the opportunity to organize and host the International Wood Fire Conference at Waubonsee Community College, which was held October 6-8.
I have presented workshops at colleges, universities, and art centers internationally, some of those include, Northern Illinois University, Corning College, Lillstreet Art Center, Watershed Center for the Ceramic Arts and Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts.
I also enjoys playing golf, listening to 2-channel hi-fi vacuum tube equipment, collecting vinyl, and playing the trumpet in the College Jazz Combo.
