Waubonsee Community College’s men’s basketball and golf coach has retired from coaching basketball.

David Heiss had coached the Chiefs men’s basketball team since 1985. In that time he coached more than 1,073 games and retired with a record of 644 wins and 429 losses. He is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Hall of Fame, the NJCAA Region IV Hall of Fame, the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference Hall of Fame and the Aurora West High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He has earned Coach of the Year awards 16 times.

“Dave Heiss has worked tirelessly to help young men be better men by teaching them life skills through basketball. We thank Dave for his many years of service to the college as the men’s basketball coach and we wish him continued success on the golf course and in the classroom,” said Dr. Melinda Tejada, Vice President of Student Development.

While Heiss has retired from coaching basketball, he will continue to coach the college’s golf team and teach in the college’s Kinesiology and Physical Education Program.
