Waubonsee will host an open house on the Sugar Grove Campus on Saturday, April 6 from 1 to 3 p.m. The event is family-friendly, free and open to the public.
Waubonsee students, faculty members, administrators and staff will be available to discuss programs, resources, financial assistance, and student clubs and activities. There will also be workshops on topics such as choosing a major and paying for college.
Guests should begin their visit at the Field House on the north side of campus, where they will learn about Waubonsee and get information about the day’s activities. Visitors will also have the opportunity to try to score on the Chiefs’ men’s soccer team goalies.
Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (S.T.E.A.M.) Programs at Waubonsee will be featured at the event. There will be hands-on demonstrations and experiments in the Science Building with authentic moon rocks on display and a stream table with model rivers, deltas and floods. Attendees will also be able to measure grip strength with the college’s kinesiology equipment.
In addition to information about the college’s academic programs, parents will be able to register children for Waubonsee’s Youth Enrichment Program (YEP!) camps from 11:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the Student Center. Kids will be able to make a silkscreen t-shirt, meet camp instructors and enjoy hands-on activities. Kids and parents will learn about the unique opportunities at the 2019 summer camps. There will be more than 40 classes available including those that allow kids to fly a drone, train on a Ninja Warrior obstacle course, use a 3-D printer and more.
There will be giveaways, raffles and free food truck refreshments while supplies last. Visit www.waubonsee.edu/openhouse for more information and to RSVP for the open house.
