Waubonsee recognizes the professional and academic accomplishments of its faculty and staff.

Dr. Jamal Scott, Vice President of Strategic Development; Anita Moore, Dean for Academic Support and Jessica Moreno, Assistant Dean for Developmental Education participated in the Impacting Undergraduate Men Pursuing Higher Education (TRIUMPH) Expansion Project’s Grant Kick-Off meeting at Triton College. Triton received Educational Credit Management Corporation Foundation support to expand the TRIUMPH program model at additional colleges, Waubonsee being one of them, to increase the college persistence and completion rates of minority males.

Ken Kunz, Professor of Automotive Technology, and Alyson Gaspar, Career and Technical Education Services Manager, presented “Get Your Motor Running: Partnerships with Purpose” at the 2018 Forum for Excellence in Normal, Ill. Their presentation featured the Waubonsee Community College collaborative partnership with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

Amy Chaaban, Assistant Professor of Information Systems, Evan Darger, Adjunct Faculty Development Coordinator and Adjunct Instructor of Fire Sciences and Emergency Medical Technician, Dr. Laura Ortiz, Dean for Faculty Development and Engagement and Dr. Sheela Vemu, Assistant Professor of Biology participated in the Internationalization of Curricular and Institutions Round Table at Governors State University.

Aaron Lawler, Instructor of Humanities, conducted a featured presentation at the Oswego Literary Festival, an event sponsored by the Village’s Cultural Arts Commission and the Oswego Public Library District. He conducted a talk followed with a question and answer session about his young adult novel, The Marvelous Paracosm of Fitz Faraday and the Shapers of the Id.

Dr. David Beer, Assistant Dean for Business and Career Technologies, has been accepted into the 2018-2019 New Workforce Professional Academy sponsored by the National Council for Workforce Education (NCWE). Participants attended a workshop at the NCWE Annual Conference in Clearwater, Fla.

Katie Kripp, Senior Human Resources Manager, was recognized as one of the 2018 Top Women in Benefit Advising by Employee Benefit Advisor. Twenty winners from across the country were selected by editors of the publication for their personal and professional accomplishments in a largely male-dominated profession.

Juan Fernandez, Adjunct Instructor of Photography, has been selected to present his project Objectives at the Society for Photographic Education Midwest Conference this November at the University of Kentucky. His project Façade is curated into a group show called Dwellings at the Rockford Art Museum through January 2019. Fernandez also has other exhibits on display throughout the Chicago area.

Doug Jeppesen, Associate Professor of Art and Ceramics taught a wood firing workshop at the Touchstone Center for Crafts in Farmington, Pa. A platter of his was accepted into the 26th Annual Strictly Functional Exhibit in Pittsburgh, Pa. and two of his teabowls were accepted into the Kansas City Teabowl National hosted by the Kansas City Clay Guild.
