Spring is a time of rebirth and growth and during the month of April, both are visible on the campuses of Waubonsee Community College. With the bloom of spring flowers, shrubs and trees, the beauty found on our four campuses is seen in the various habitats despite the cool weather.
After a cold and snowy winter, we invite students, staff and community to experience the beauty of our environments during the college’s Earth Week celebration April 22 through April 28, 2018. During our celebration, we plan to feature the various awards and designations Waubonsee Community College has worked hard to achieve as well as spotlight our beautiful planter pots and flower beds.
It is a pleasure to announce that the Sugar Grove Campus has been awarded The Arbor Day Foundation’s Tree Campus USA® award for the eighth consecutive year. This designation is for the promotion of healthy trees and the engagement of students and staff in the spirit of conservation.
The Sugar Grove Campus also earned the National Wildlife Federation Wildlife Habitat Certification after continued observance of sustainable gardening practices which include: controlled plant species, organic practices and soil and water conservation. Providing food and water sources, as well as different habitats for wildlife to raise their young, is an ongoing focus throughout our landscape maintenance.
Our Earth Week celebration will provide a variety of interactive activities to draw you outside to enjoy all the natural beauty our campuses have to offer. A bird watching walk, scavenger hunt, Green Fest, landscape restoration work day with the Kane County Forest Preserve, and commemorative tree planting in observance of Arbor Day are just a few activities planned.
