Part of a new generation of teachers who have never taught without Internet availability and a smart classroom, I've been involved in online learning in some capacity since I started teaching in 2000. From 2000 to 2010, I taught at Robert Morris College and launched their first online class in 2004. I've been at College of DuPage since 2004 and started teaching online there in 2008. Soon after, I joined The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, where I facilitated an academic writing seminar for incoming masters-level students until 2016. Lastly, I've been teaching online at Elgin and Waubonsee community colleges since 2010/2011. In addition to my experience in education, I have been employed in fields including publishing, not-for-profit event planning and fundraising, and corporate communications.
Writing is personal--an extension of one's self. Because of this, I make every effort to approach your writing as an extension of you, deserving of my attention and respect. If you're comfortable with me as an instructor and can trust me with your writing, you will become a better writer by the end of the semester because you will be free to learn without fear of judgment or disrespect. In this class, you will be given the tools you need to become a better research writer, and the hope is that you will use these tools as you continue to grow as a writer well beyond the scope of this course. Your questions and comments are important to me--a necessary part of my continued improvement as an instructor. I am not only the instructor and facilitator of this course, but I'm also a member of our learning community. Our classroom is a community where we learn from each other. The day I stop learning is the day I should stop teaching.
I teach English 101 and 102, mostly in the asynchronous online modality; however, I now teach hybrid classes on campus as well.
