Waubonsee Community College has experienced a significant enrollment growth of 15% for its spring 2025 semester, as compared to spring 2024.

The college has seen a 20% rise in new credit degree-seeking students and a 26% increase in high school/dual credit enrollment, reflecting a growing demand for early college opportunities.

“This growth reaffirms Waubonsee’s commitment to students and our mission to build high-quality academic, career and transfer programs that meet students where they are while providing a clear path to their goals,” said Waubonsee President Brian Knetl.

The upward trend in enrollment signals not only new student interest, but that of returning students who last attended Waubonsee two or more years ago. This spring, 44 students have re-enrolled to continue their academic journeys at Waubonsee.

“Our Student Success and Retention team have made great efforts in reconnecting with students who’ve left Waubonsee to support them in their return.” said Lorena Lopez, Student Retention Manager. “It truly has been a collaborative effort across the college, and I’m proud of the work our teams have done, but also proud of our students who are giving their education a second chance. We’re here to support them every step of the way.”

According to the Illinois Community College Board’s Spring 2025 report, the statewide headcount of enrollments in Illinois community colleges increased 8.9% from the previous year, marking the largest rate of growth from spring-to-spring ever recorded.

As Waubonsee’s enrollment continues to climb, the college is also charting a bold path forward with the launch of RISE 2030, its new strategic plan designed to redefine and reinvigorate Waubonsee’s position as the community’s college.

Developed through a collaborative and inclusive process, RISE 2030 incorporates insights from employees, students, and community members to shape the college’s priorities for the next five years – rising to meet new opportunities and further lighting the way for our students.
