Waubonsee Community College’s Legal Interpreting Program offers a Certificate of Achievement that puts people on a rewarding career path. Legal interpreters provide English/Spanish bilingual people with the knowledge and skills to interpret complicated legal matters. People who take courses in the program are employed throughout the region.

“The program helped me open doors in the legal interpreting field. The classes helped prepare me for the state exam and opened the door for me to work in the Kendall County court system. I also had the opportunity to meet the many wonderful students and faculty of the program,” said Elva Slepicka, a former student of the program now working as a legal interpreter.

Legal interpreters learn to interpret legal concepts from Spanish to English and from English to Spanish and to evaluate ethical situations using the code of professional conduct.

Waubonsee’s Legal Interpreting Program has a Memorandum of Understanding with the Administrative Office of Illinois Courts that streamlines the orientation process to become a registered legal interpreter.

The Legal Interpreting Program will be one of the programs featured at an open house at Waubonsee’s Aurora Downtown Campus on March 2 from 1 to 3 p.m.

Visit www.waubonsee.edu/openhouse for information about the open house and to RSVP.
