Dr. Janette Funaro
Waubonsee Community College welcomes Dr. Janette Funaro to the position of Dean for Social Sciences, Education and World Languages.
Funaro has been employed at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kan. since 2000. She has served as a Professor of Foreign Languages and as the Foreign Language Department Chair. She was the founding facilitator of the Johnson County Community College Health Care Interpreting Certificate Program. At Johnson County Community College, Funaro chaired several committees and served on their Strategic Planning Task Force, Curriculum Development and Approval Committee, Program Review Committee, Faculty Peer Review Committee and the Higher Learning Commission Systems Portfolio Team, among others. Funaro also has experience as a study abroad advisor and overseas program manager at the University of Iowa and the University of Pennsylvania and has been admitted to the Peer Corps of the Higher Learning Commission.
Funaro holds a Doctorate in Community College Leadership from the Roueche Graduate Center at National American University, a Master of Arts in Romance Languages and Literatures from the University of Chicago and a Bachelor of Arts in French from Grinnell College.
The college’s board of trustees approved Funaro’s appointment at their regularly scheduled meeting on Nov. 14, 2018, and she assumed the duties of the position on Jan. 3, 2019.
