

Waubonsee Community College is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Eric Aurand, of Tucson, Ariz., as the Dean for Mathematics and Science. Dr. Aurand brings experience in STEM education, leadership, and community engagement.
Dr. Aurand’s passion for STEM education began early in his career as an Assistant Professorship at East Texas A&M University, where he discovered enthusiasm for supporting and teaching mathematics. He later served as Acting Dean at Eastfield Community College and as an Academic Chair at Mohave Community College, where he secured grants that provided students with access to STEM education and supported professional development for educators.
Prior to joining Waubonsee, Dr. Aurand was a Teaching Professor at Arizona State University (ASU) and Associate Director of Operations at ASU’s Lake Havasu Campus. He led STEM outreach initiatives, securing funding for academic competitions, technology expos, community STEM talks, and summer camps designed to engage students in STEM fields. As President and Vice President of the Lake Havasu Unified School District Governing Board, he helped expand STEM opportunities for rural students by forging partnerships between ASU and local schools. Dr. Aurand holds a Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of North Texas, specializing in Graph Theory. He is completing a Fulbright Specialist term in STEM education.
