Waubonsee Community College will offer a new annual scholarship.
The Aurora Strong First Responders Scholarship is a $1,000 annual scholarship that will be awarded to one student in the Fire Science Program, the Emergency Medical Technician – Paramedic Program or the Criminal Justice Program with the intent to become a police officer. The Aurora Strong First Responders Scholarship was created in response to the shooting at the Henry Pratt Company in Aurora on February 15 and in appreciation to the people who respond to those incidents.
“Waubonsee is an important community resource and with the support of our foundation board we wanted to see if something could be done to help in light of this traumatic event. We feel this scholarship will positively impact students entering careers that will require them to respond with determination and skill to any kind of emergency situation,” said Rob Barto, Chief Advancement Officer at Waubonsee.
The Aurora Strong First Responders Scholarship was created and included in the scholarship offerings for the 2019-2020 academic year. The first recipient will be selected from applicants who applied for scholarships for the coming year before the February 4 deadline and who meet the program of study requirements. This opportunity will be included in all information about scholarships beginning when the next scholarship application window opens later this year.
