Want to get away for a day of fun this summer?
Waubonsee Community College’s Community Education Department will offer an assortment of day trips for those interested in some tasty, enriching and entertaining fun.
All trips include transportation, admission to the event (where applicable), taxes and lunch.
Thursday, June 12, the Waubonsee tour bus will head off to South Bend, Ind., offering the chance to explore the University of Notre Dame. Participants can enjoy a student-led tour of the university, home of the Fightin’ Irish. Lunch will be provided at one of the university’s student dining halls. Later in the day, participants can ramble on through South Bend’s Studebaker National Museum, boasting a stunning collection of automobiles from throughout automotive history. Then, visit the Oliver Mansion, a 38-room Romanesque Queen Anne house dating from 1895. Transportation will depart Waubonsee’s Sugar Grove Campus at 6 a.m. June 12, returning around 5:30 p.m. Cost for this package is $89 per person.
Wednesday, July 23, join Waubonsee on a delicious tour of the Long Grove Confectionary Company in Long Grove. Following the tour,participants can dine at Long Grove’s Village Tavern, Illinois’ oldest restaurant and tavern. And to cap off the day, tour participants can visit the Valentino Vineyards and Winery, also in Long Grove, for a tour and wine tasting. Transportation for this tour is scheduled to depart Waubonsee at 8:15 a.m. on July 23, and will return around 6:15 p.m. Cost for this package is $99 per person.
Thursday, July 31, join Waubonsee on a trip to Fort Atkinson, Wis., for a lunchtime matinee performance of Fireside Theater’s Smokey Joe’s Café. The critically acclaimed musical revue offer live performances of the music of Jerry Leiber and Mike Stolle, whose hits included a virtual Top 40 of some of the greatest pop songs ever recorded, including such titles as “Hound Dog,” “Love Potion No. 9,” Yackety Yak,” “Stand By Me,” and many more. The package will include Fireside’s Featured Lunch menu. Transportation for this event will depart Waubonsee at 8:30 a.m. July 31, returning at about 6:30 p.m. Cost for this package is $89 per person.
