The Waubonsee Community College English Department and the college’s Creative Writing Club has rescheduled the release party for the 2018 edition of Horizons, Waubonsee’s literary magazine. The publication release will be marked with a celebration on Monday, May 7 in the Student Center on the Sugar Grove Campus. The event was originally scheduled for Wednesday, May 2.

Horizons is a student-led magazine which provides student writers and artists an opportunity to have their work published, as well as learn the process of producing a professional publication. Students serve as editors-in-chief, managing editors, layout and design editors, copy editors and on the editorial committee. Members of the Waubonsee faculty and staff serve as advisors for the project.

“Students who participate in the magazine are part of a vibrant community of writers on campus that go to writing conferences together, run open mic events and even run writing contests,” said Dan Portincaso, Associate Professor of English and faculty advisor for the Creative Writing Club and Horizons.

This year’s magazine includes works by more than 40 students. There are works of fiction and poetry, as well as works of visual art.

The release party is open to the public and is free of charge. The event will feature some remarks about the publication, free cake, free copies of the magazine, and readings from the publication.
