Aurora Downtown

Waubonsee Community College will host an open house at the Aurora Downtown Campus on Friday, May 6 from 5 to 9 p.m. during Aurora's First Fridays. This family-friendly event is free and open to the community.

This open house will feature art, live music, and a night of education and fun. Attendees can speak with individuals to explore what programs and career pathways are available for traditional students, those looking to gain new career skills, or Spanish speakers seeking to enroll in a High School Equivalency or English Language Acquisition program. The following programs will be highlighted including Early Childhood Education, Adult Education, and Health Information Technology. Attendees will enjoy a live performance by Victor Garcia Latin Jazz at 7 p.m. The college’s Student Ceramics Club will host an exhibition which will include a ceramics throwing demonstration.

Bilingual staff and faculty will be available at the open house to answer questions, provide one-on-one guidance, and discuss available financial assistance and student resources. Attendees will also be able to tour the new Latinx Resource Center (LRC) located at the Aurora Downtown Campus.

The LRC is an identity-based center that provides resources, support services, and educational experiences to support students' academic and social success. It offers students a place to belong and to learn more about Latinx "culturas" cultures, "herencias" heritage, and "tradiciones" traditions.

The event will also include giveaways while supplies last. Those taking steps towards enrollment will be entered in a drawing to win a free class worth up to $500.
