The Waubonsee Chiefs cross country teams will be well represented at this year’s National Junior College Athletic Association National Championships following some impressive performances on Saturday at the Region IV Championships hosted by Sauk Valley Community College.

Sophomore Emma McSpadden finished second overall with a time of 20:21, earning her All-Region honors and advancing her to the National Championships. 

In the men’s competition freshman Dylan Zangri set a new Waubonsee record running 25:27 to finish first and earn the Region IV Runner of the Year Award.  Three other Chiefs finished in the Top 15 to earn All-Region distinction.  Sophomore Jose Alvarado (26:53) was tenth followed closely by freshman Julian Hernandez (27:00) in eleventh place.  Sophomore Jason Schlicher ran 27:34 which was good for fourteenth place.

The Waubonsee men finished second in the team standings which qualifies them to compete as a team at the NJCAA National Championships.

The NJCAA Championships will be held November 11, 2017 at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge, IA.  The men’s 8K race will begin at 11:00 a.m. with the women’s 5K race to start at noon.
