Waubonsee Community College will host an open house event on Saturday, Nov. 4 from 1-4 p.m. at the Aurora Fox Valley Campus, 2060 Ogden Ave. (Route 34 on the Rush-Copley Campus). The open house is an opportunity for people interested in working in the health care industry to learn more about the education programs available at Waubonsee.
In addition to providing information about the academic programs, financial aid and scholarships, there will be faculty members and administrators on hand to discuss career opportunities in registered nursing, surgical technology, phlebotomy and other health care fields.
Waubonsee’s Nursing Program is widely respected due to the success of its students. For example, 94 percent of the program’s graduates passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX) in 2016 compared to a pass rate of 85 percent both nationally and in Illinois. Similarly, the college’s Surgical Technology Program has been recognized by the Board of Directors of the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting for its pass rate of more than 90 percent on the Certified Surgical Technologist exam for the exam cycle of August 2015 through July 2016.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, health care-related employment is projected to grow 18 percent between 2016 and 2026, which is greater than the average of all other occupations. This growth is primarily due to the increased need for health care services for an expanding older population.
In the Nursing Program, Waubonsee offers an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Nursing and an Associate in Science Nursing Transfer Degree. Waubonsee also offers programs in fields such as Emergency Medical Technician, Nurse Assistant and Medical Assistant. Information about these and other programs will be available at the open house.
