Waubonsee Community College has appointed Michelle Evans to the position of Assistant Dean for Health Professions and Public Service, effective Feb. 3.

Evans, of Aurora, brings more than a decade of experience as a social worker, counselor and therapist in both the public and private sectors to her new role at Waubonsee. She has served since 2008 as a full-time Social Worker II through the Illinois Department of Human Services as part of the Forensic Treatment Program at the Elgin Mental Health Center. Since 2012, she has also served as a bilingual therapist at Nickerson and Associates in Winfield.

Evans’ past service includes work as a resource and referral counselor at Linden Oaks Hospital at Edward in Naperville, an intervention specialist at Aunt Martha’s Youth Service Center in Elgin, and a child welfare advanced specialist at the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services in Elgin.

Evans earned a Master of Social Work degree from Aurora University in 2004, and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology, political science and Spanish from North Central College in Naperville in 2001.

She is pursuing a Doctorate of Social Work at Aurora University.
