Sharon Garcia

Waubonsee Community College is pleased to announce the appointment of Sharon Garcia as the new Assistant Provost of Teaching and Learning. Previously, Garcia served as the Executive Dean for Liberal Arts and Sciences.

In this new role, Garcia will oversee and support initiatives aimed at enhancing Waubonsee’s academic offerings to ensure student success, including developing new academic programs, planning instructional modalities and schedules for credit courses, and conducting academic program reviews. Garcia will assess student learning and evaluate success measures while collaborating with educational partners both within and outside the college, focusing on dual credit initiatives and creating seamless pathways from secondary education through Waubonsee to transfer institutions and careers.

As a first-generation American community college student, Garcia has a deep understanding of the challenges faced by students and is committed to implementing equity-focused solutions to advance teaching and learning excellence.

“My vision is to work alongside our talented faculty and staff to create an engaging and supportive learning environment that prepares our students for success in their academic and professional endeavors,” said Garcia.

Garcia brings 17 years of experience in academic and administrative leadership with a strong foundation in educational psychology. She holds a Bachelor of Science Management from North Central College and a Master of Arts in Psychology in Education from Teachers College at Columbia University. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology at Northern Illinois University, with an expected graduation date of May 2025. Her research centers on sociocultural factors influencing academic motivation and achievement among minority community college students.
