Sugar Grove – Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustee Mr. James K. Michels, together with Dr. Christine J. Sobek, President of Waubonsee Community College, proudly hosted the Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg to the United States, Gaston Stronck, and Mr. Kevin Wester, former Executive Director of the Luxemburg Cultural Society in Belgium, Wisconsin, on Friday, June 11, 2021, at the college’s Sugar Grove Campus.
H.E. Gaston Stronck was invited to the college to learn about Waubonsee Community College and community colleges in the U.S.
Ambassador Stronck has a longstanding diplomatic and academic career which spans four decades. He became the Ambassador of Luxembourg to the U.S. on Sept. 16, 2019. He has worked for the Luxembourg Foreign Service since 1995 and, prior to that, served as Deputy Director for Development Cooperation at the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
This special visit came about through Waubonsee Board of Trustee Mr. James K. Michels and his involvement with the Luxembourg American Cultural Society and Center. Its mission is to preserve the roots of the Luxembourg heritage and nurture relationships between Luxembourg and America. Mr. Wester organized Ambassador Stronck’s trip to the Aurora area.
The U.S. established diplomatic relations with Luxembourg in 1903 after it gained full independence from the Netherlands in 1867. Luxembourg is a longstanding ally of the United States. The friendship between the two countries is strengthened by a shared commitment to advancing freedom and prosperity.
