At their June 18 meeting, the Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees officially appointed Dr. Anthony Ramos, of Darien, as the college’s new Vice President of Talent and Culture/Chief Diversity Officer. He will officially assume the role on July 1.
“I am humbled and grateful for the opportunity to serve at Waubonsee at a time of transformative change that deepens service to the residents of District 516,” Dr. Ramos said. “Community colleges nationally serve the most diverse student populations in our sector of higher education, and this is especially true in WCC's district, where we serve the second largest city in the state [Aurora] to rural communities, as well as being a federally designated Hispanic Serving Institution. I am excited to support and strengthen the existing and new collaborative efforts around student success and equity, and employee development and engagement across the college.”
Dr. Ramos has most recently been serving as the Chief Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging Officer at Elgin Community College. Throughout his career in higher education, he has served in various leadership roles including Interim Dean for the Arts, Communication and Hospitality Division, and Assistant Dean for Adjunct Faculty Support at College of DuPage. He has also worked at Oakton College, where he provided leadership over academic advising, new student orientation, and various entities including the Achieving the Dream institutional core, data, and initiative teams. He continues to serve at Oakton as an adjunct faculty member.
Additionally, Dr. Ramos serves as a member of a local board of education, the American Association of Community College Economic and Workforce Development Commission, and as an Achieving the Dream Coach.
