The B that Caroline Amelse earned on a geology exam in 2009 was certainly not her best grade, but it was the grade that she is most proud of.

When she started at Waubonsee Community College that year, Amelse was a general science student. Waubonsee was a place where she could explore her academic interests at an affordable price before committing to a four-year college. She was able to do just that and learn a great deal about herself while she also learned about the sciences.

Students at community colleges bring remarkably diverse backgrounds and experiences to the classrooms they sit in. Danny Peña, a student at Waubonsee Community College, is the perfect example of this. Peña was recently named California Pizza Kitchen’s top pizza chef in America.

Waubonsee Hosts Poetry Event

To mark National Poetry Month, Waubonsee Community College will host Poetry Out Loud! on Thursday, April 19 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Todd Library on the Sugar Grove Campus.

Waubonsee Hosts Play, This Evil Thing

Waubonsee Community College will host a special performance of This Evil Thing, a one-person show about British conscientious objectors in World War I. The play, performed by British playwright and actor Michael Mears, will be performed at the Sugar Grove Campus in the Auditorium on April 12.

Waubonsee Student Receives Coca-Cola Academic Team Scholarship

Conor Snedeker, of Hinckley, has been named a 2018 Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholar. He will receive a $1,250 scholarship.
