Waubonsee Students Find Success in Drafting Careers

Changes in technology and advances in automation can lead people to be concerned about the future of some jobs in career fields like engineering and computer aided design and drafting (CAD). However, Waubonsee Community College students Michael Chinn of Batavia and Matthew Maltese of Aurora have found rewarding jobs as drafters at EN Engineering in Warrenville.

Waubonsee Foundation Awards Scholarships

The Waubonsee Community College Foundation has awarded 405 scholarships to 346 recipients. The total value of the scholarships this year is more than $378,000. The number of scholarships and the total dollar amount of scholarships increased by 8 percent this year and the number of recipients increased by 18 percent. The scholarships are for the upcoming academic year.

During my more than 40 years experience working within higher education – specifically within the community college system – I have witnessed countless examples of the power of education to change lives. And, nothing is more effective than hearing directly from the source; people who have attended community college.

Community colleges have complex missions.  We provide general education as a foundation for further specialized learning.  We also provide career education so that people can make a good living.  We offer workforce training to reskill people for advancement.  We also provide a lifetime of learning that enriches people personally, culturally and socially. 

And the most important part, education at the community college knows no barriers or discrimination.  It is for everyone.

Waubonsee Recognizes Support Staff Excellence

Waubonsee Community College presented the 2019 Support Staff Awards for Excellence. One award was presented in each of three categories: Innovation and Creativity, Service and Quality, and Diversity and Inclusion.

Waubonsee Creates Pathway With North Central College

Waubonsee Community College has partnered with North Central College on a Guaranteed Admission Agreement. This agreement creates a clear pathway for Waubonsee students to transfer to North Central.

At last month’s commencement we celebrated our fifty-first graduating class; a collective ritual marking both the external changes and internal transformation of people as they prepare to enrich their lives, their families and their communities.
