For the upcoming 2020-2021 academic year, the Waubonsee Community College Foundation awarded 365 scholarships to 325 recipients. The total amount of  awards is more than $326,000.

As we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which guaranteed women the right to vote, I can’t help but think of how daunting a task this must have been.  Suffragists endured ridicule, condescension, and vicious attacks as they tried to persuade an unsympathetic public to expand voting rights to include women.  They also lived in an era not unlike our own.

I have worked my entire career in higher education and as a result, I have very specific memories and expectations for certain months in the academic year. August is always the time when we celebrate the start of another academic year. This spirit of celebration is even more important right now as the pandemic continues to create some uncertainties and questions about this upcoming fall semester.

Waubonsee Students Overcome Coronavirus Obstacles

The coronavirus pandemic has impacted so many people and changed so many things that it can be easier to process it all in broad terms. In May and June schools and colleges developed plans to honor all of the recent graduates in new ways. Now as the next academic year approaches, schools and colleges are working to find learning solutions for all students. In the larger groups of graduates and students, though, are individual people whose lives have been impacted and plans dramatically changed.

The prospects for careers in welding are immense and dynamic. Welding is an essential skill that is necessary in many industries. According to the American Welding Society, an estimated 50 percent of the United States gross national product is affected by welding.
