The holiday season is upon us, and as I reflect on another year affected by a global pandemic, I think of the extraordinary efforts of members of our college community and those in our local community.
Staff, Students, and Community Members Invited to Walk-in COVID-19 Vaccine & Booster Clinics
In an effort to continue to provide a safe campus environment, Waubonsee Community College will be offering two walk-in, community-wide, COVID-19 vaccination and booster clinics. The clinics will offer staff, students, and community members the option to choose between receiving the first or second Pfizer shot, a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, or a booster shot. No appointments, registration, or insurance is required to attend.
Waubonsee Hosts Annual Art Faculty Exhibition
Waubonsee Community College is hosting its Annual Art Faculty Exhibition on the Sugar Grove Campus. The art exhibit will feature a variety of different work created by members of the college’s art department.

Waubonsee students have a long history of volunteering generously in the community through the Lucile Gustafson Scholarship program, which began in 1979. Since 2015, there have been approximately 2,153 Waubonsee students who have given 6,785.25 volunteer hours in the community, and this dedication to service continues today.
Waubonsee Hosts Open House on Aurora Fox Valley Campus
Waubonsee Community College will host an open house at its Aurora Fox Valley Campus on Thursday, December 2 from 5 to 7 p.m. The event is family-friendly, free and open to the public.

Waubonsee Receives Unmodified Clean Opinion on Comprehensive Annual Financial Report During Unprecedented Year
At the November board meeting, Waubonsee Community College’s independent auditor, Mr. Fred Lantz, CPA, Director, Government Services, of Sikich LLP, publicly announced that the college received an unmodified (clean) opinion on the college’s FY2021 comprehensive annual financial report (annual report) and the college’s audit of approximately $21 million in federal funds.
Waubonsee Partners with Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center During National Apprenticeship Week
Waubonsee Community College has formed a new partnership with the Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center (IMEC) to be the educational provider for their Industrial Manufacturing Technician apprenticeship. Waubonsee is the first community college in the State of Illinois to partner with IMEC.
A Statement on the Death of Board of Trustee Chair Emeritus Richard “Shorty” W. Dickson
Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees Chair Emeritus Richard “Shorty” W. Dickson, passed away on November 9, 2021. Mr. Dickson served on the board from 1972 until 1987 and then again from 1989 until April 2019. In those years he served as an officer of the board for 40 years, 29 years as chair, and 11 years as vice chair.
A Tradition of Sharing Generously at Waubonsee
In 2011, a prior Marine and member of the Waubonsee Veterans Club/SALUTE began the college’s annual involvement in the Marine Toys for Tots initiative to distribute toys to less fortunate children at Christmas. Since then, the Veterans Club/SALUTE at Waubonsee has continued this tradition each holiday season as a way for military-connected students and other student organizations at Waubonsee to share generously with our local community.
