AACC Recognizes Waubonsee Alumnus with Outstanding Alumni Award
A Waubonsee Community College alumnus has been recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). Dr. Indigo Debra Triplett, a Waubonsee alumna and Waubonsee’s 2021 Distinguished Alumnus, was recognized as one of three 2022 Outstanding Alumni Award winners by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). Entrepreneur, consultant, and author, Dr. Indigo, was recognized May 3 during the Outstanding Alumni Celebration at AACC Annual in New York City.

Mission Accepted: A Reflection of our Community
When you use your favorite product or service, what is the feeling you get? Do you know the mission of the company that created it? Do you know why that company or organization exists? When an organization updates its mission statement, the details of what goes behind those changes are often left out. Suddenly, you notice that the product you have always used has changed its logo or packaging one day. No notice is given, and sometimes not even a reason is provided externally. If you really want to know, you must search for it.

Waubonsee’s Small Business Development Center Receives $20,000 Grant, Helps Hispanic Businesses Grow
The Illinois Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at Waubonsee Community College has been awarded a $20,000 grant from the First National Bank of Omaha (FNBO) to help more Hispanic/Latinx entrepreneurs.
Waubonsee Board of Trustees Approves Dr. Sobek’s Retirement
The Waubonsee Community College Board of Trustees officially approved the retirement of Dr. Christine J. Sobek at their April 20, 2022 board meeting. And, in recognition of Dr. Sobek’s 21 years of distinguished service, commitment, leadership, and contributions as President of the college, the board also approved the bestowing of the honorary title of President Emeritus upon her retirement. Dr. Sobek’s effective date of retirement from her role as President of Waubonsee Community College is January 4, 2023.
